For more than eight years, Memorial’s Mobile Health Coaches have brought the latest in breast cancer screenings to women, many of whom might not otherwise have been able to afford or access screenings. The 40-foot vans travel thousands of miles each year so that more women can receive high-quality, essential breast cancer screenings.
Each coach features two dressing rooms, a waiting area, and a mammography room with advanced digital equipment. It’s the same technology you’ll find at our other MaryEllen Locher Breast Center locations.
The mobile coaches are on the road at least six days a week, making one to two stops each day. Many women—especially those working second or third shift—love the convenience of simply walking over to the coach when it pulls up near their workplace to have their annual mammogram.
Comfort is a key factor, too. The mobile coaches are staffed with women, including the driver. Everyone is extremely friendly, certified in breast mammography, and well-qualified, and it makes for a good experience for women who have their mammograms on the coach.
Women are encouraged to make appointments, but walk-ins are also welcome. We try to accommodate everyone, even those who don’t have health insurance or who can’t afford a copay or deductible.
The coaches extend access to residents in 24 counties in Southeast Tennessee and five North Georgia counties. If you would like to schedule one of Memorial’s mobile health coaches to visit your church, business or civic organization, please contact our outreach office at (423) 495-4645.
