Breast Center

Expertise, compassionate professional guidance and an all-inclusive spectrum of care are brought together at the MaryEllen Locher Breast Center, located at Memorial Hospital. We offer education and screenings, swift and accurate diagnosis, and a multidisciplinary approach to treatment. A team of experts is always at your side.

Diagnosis and Treatment
Our goal is to reduce the anxiety of uncertainty. With breast imaging radiologists and a breast surgeon on site five days a week, it is possible to move from mammogram to biopsy in one day. We expedite diagnosis and coordinate swiftly with your primary care physician.

Your case is carefully reviewed in tumor conference by numerous specialists, including surgical, medical and radiation oncologists, pathologists, imaging radiologists and plastic surgeons to determine the optimum plan of care. Your personal nurse navigator will guide you through the services you need, which may include clinical trials.

Technology
Memorial’s all-digital mammography provides exceptionally clear images and swift results. Fully integrated digital technology and 4-D ultrasound allow us to image and biopsy abnormalities too small or too deep within breast tissues to be felt. Chattanooga’s only dedicated breast MRI provides advanced image quality, comfort and efficiency.

New technologies include High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy or Mammosite that delivers radiation directly to the site of the tumor, reducing the length and frequency of treatments. Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) uses computer-guided, pinpoint precision to target tumors.

Support
Encouragement, answers and hope await you in the inviting, healing environment of the MaryEllen Locher Breast Center. You can be confident of receiving the highest level of care with the emotional and spiritual support you need on your journey to breast health.

Before, during and after treatment, Memorial’s Centers for Cancer Support offer a team of nurses, educators, dietitians, chaplains and social workers. Free to all cancer patients and families, services include support groups, spiritual counseling and much, much more.
