The idea of having prostate cancer can be frightening. According to the American Cancer Society, doctors diagnose more than 238,590 new cases of prostate cancer per year. Roughly 1 out of 6 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Because there are no symptoms, you could have it right now and not even realize it.
But what if you had access to the most advanced treatments in the world today, helmed by a leading doctor with more than 20 years of cancer surgery experience? What if these minimally invasive treatments greatly reduced the risk of side effects like incontinence and erectile dysfunction?
The Prostate Center of Excellence—part of Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga—is a state-of-the-art treatment center dedicated entirely to treating prostate cancer. Our physicians, surgeons and radiologists work together to offer you the most effective multidisciplinary prostate cancer treatments available, improving your quality of life while minimizing debilitating side effects.
Diagnosis and Treatment
Prostate cancer is typically slow-growing and, if caught in the early stages, has a high rate of cure. Once identified, prostate cancers can be treated with hormones, radiation, surgeries (including new minimally invasive robotic options) and, in rare cases, chemotherapy. At Memorial, specialists in many disciplines come together in regularly scheduled tumor conferences and use their expertise to recommend a course of treatment.

Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) uses computer-guided precision to target tumors with larger doses of radiation. Additional therapies kill cancer cells by heating, freezing or injecting radioactive “seeds” directly into the prostate gland. All of these treatments are better at protecting healthy, surrounding tissue.
