Top 100 in Consumer Loyalty

CHI Memorial has been named in the 2019 NRC Health Top 100 Consumer Loyalty list. The health system is recognized by NRC Health as one of the top healthcare organizations in the country, garnering extraordinary loyalty from its patient populations as identified and rated by more than 300,000 U.S. consumers.

For nearly four decades, NRC Health has helped healthcare organizations illuminate and improve the moments that matter most to patients, residents, physicians, nurses, and staff. The Consumer Loyalty Awards are the first and only loyalty-based hospital rankings in the U.S. CHI Memorial was selected based on results from NRC Health’s Market Insights survey, the largest database of healthcare consumer responses in the country.

Best of the Best

For the 11th consecutive year, CHI Memorial has been named Best Hospital in the Chattanooga Times Free Press' Annual Best of the Best Awards. CHI Memorial's Emergency Department was named Best ED for the 10th year. CHI Memorial Pediatric Diagnostic Associates was named Best Pediatrician and Dr. Jeffrey Jump was a finalist for Best General Practice Physician.

Becker’s Healthcare has recognized CHI Memorial as one of 100 Great Hospitals in America.  The hospitals included in the ranking have been recognized nationally for excellence in clinical care, patient outcomes, and staff and physician satisfaction.  Included on the list are industry leaders that have achieved advanced accreditation and certification in several specialties and are industry innovators that have sparked trends in healthcare technology, hospital management and patient satisfaction.  Becker’s selected hospitals based on analysis of ranking and award agencies, including U.S. News & World Report’s 2018-2019 rankings, CareChex, Healthgrades, CMS star ratings, Leapfrog grades and IBM Watson Health top hospitals.

4 Star Rating

CHI Memorial has once again received a four star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).  The most common overall hospital quality star rating is three stars, out of a possible five stars.  Only 24 percent of the 4,573 hospitals included in the survey received a four star rating.  CHI Memorial scored at or better than the national average in mortality, patient experience, and effectiveness of care.

The overall rating shows how well an individual hospital is performing compared to other hospitals in the U.S., on average. CMS uses data regularly reported by hospitals and summarizes up to 59 quality measures into a star rating.  This rating is designed to help individuals, family members and care givers compare hospitals and easily understand complex quality information.

Gold Plus Stroke Award

The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association recognized CHI Memorial with the 2020 Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence. CHI Memorial received two additional awards from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association - Target: StrokeSM Elite Plus and Target: Type 2 Honor Roll .

Community Impact Award

CHI Memorial Hospital Hixson received the Friends of Hixson Community Impact Award. The award recognized CHI Memorial Hospital Hixson for the impact and involvement to improve the Hixson community. The Friends of Hixson select award recipients based on feedback they have received about organizations that work to improve the community on a daily basis.

Best Walk-in Clinic

CHI Memorial Convenient Care – Cleveland was honored by the Cleveland Daily Banner as Best Walk-in Clinic and CHI Memorial was finalist for best hospital.

Champions of Healthcare

Roy Turley, volunteer, and Phil Perry, RN, case manager, received 2019 Champions of Health Care Awards. Roy received the Volunteer Award and Phil was recognized with the non-physician practitioner award. The Champions of Health Care program recognizes excellence, promotes innovation and educates the community about best practices to enhance the value and quality of health care in the Chattanooga Metro area.


The Joint Commission Accreditation

CHI Memorial has earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval® for Hospital Accreditation by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal of Approval® is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care.  

CIHQ Accreditation

CHI Memorial Hospital Georgia is accredited by the Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality (CIHQ). 

American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer Accreditation

In 2017, the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons granted three-year approval with commendation to the cancer program at CHI Memorial. Approval by the Commission on Cancer is given only to facilities that voluntarily commit to providing the highest level of quality in cancer care. Facilities must undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.


Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation

CHI Memorial's Weight Management Program is a Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP®) Center.  A bariatric surgical center achieves accreditation following a rigorous review process during which it proves that it can maintain certain physical resources, human resources, and standards of practice. Breast Care Accreditations

CHI Memorial MaryEllen Locher Breast Center is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR®) and the National Quality Measures for Breast Centers (NQMBC). 

Lung Care Accreditation

CHI Memorial's lung program has been designated as the first Lung Center of Excellence within Catholic Health Initiatives and CommonSpirit Health. This 3-year lung accreditation program was designed to provide the roadmap for creating high quality, comprehensive lung programs and contains 26 standards to meet for accreditation.

Cardiac Rehabilitation Program Certification

CHI Memorial's cardiac rehabilitation program is certfied by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).  This certification is recognition of CHI Memorial’s commitment to improving the quality of life of patients by enhancing standards of care.  Learn more. 


Primary Stroke Center Certification

CHI Memorial has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Heart-Check mark for Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers. CHI Memorial’s stroke program underwent a rigorous onsite review in February. Joint Commission experts evaluated compliance with stroke-related standards and requirements, including program management, the delivery of clinical care and performance improvement.


Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) Center of Excellence

CHI Memorial was recognized as a Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) Center of Excellence for FY20 CHI’s National Cardiovascular Service Line. The recognition program is designed to optimize the care delivery for one of the highest volume, high risk and high cost cardiac procedures. Evaluation standards were selected by the physician members of the Cardiac Surgery Clinical Standards Committee and focused on three domains of care; quality, stewardship, and patient selection. Within each domain, thresholds for the standards were established using national benchmarks primarily from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons STS Registry. Only two other CHI facilities received the designation - St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington and Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.
