20th Cam Busch Art for Health Series

02/28/20

CHI Memorial Foundation will host the 20th Cam Busch Art for Health Series in partnership with the Hunter Museum of American Art on Thursday, March 19, 2020, from 5 – 7:30 p.m.

This year’s featured guest presenter is Virginia Schenck, known by the stage name VA. An accomplished international vocal artist and jazz performer, VA has studied under the legendary Bobby McFerrin. VA has worked as a board certified music therapist primarily in the fields of psychology and addiction, gerontology, and cancer wellness. She has also worked with patients with autism and learning disabilities and was a pioneer in the early applications of music therapy for music therapy-assisted childbirth and hospice care.  When not performing, VA teaches continuing education for music therapists in addition to her retreats and workshops bringing the same immediacy and emotional connectivity as she does as a performing artist.  VA takes you on a pilgrimage with music that is both authentic and soul inspiring.  It’s a journey you’ll want to take.

In addition to our featured speaker, the program will highlight local visual and performing arts organizations making an impact on the health of our community in areas of social, emotional, and physical wellness.

VA will also offer a master class at UTC, hosted by the UTC Music Therapy Program. This master class, highlighting the field of music therapy, is open to all high school and college students in the region, and will be held in the University Center auditorium on March 19, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. Event sponsors, patrons, and arts partners are welcome to attend. The class is free to attend, but registration is requested.

Tickets for the Arts for Health Lecture can be purchased online. For questions about sponsorship or for more information, please call the CHI Memorial Foundation office at 423.495.4438 or email foundation@memorial.org.
