CHI Memorial has launched Epic, the most widely-used and comprehensive health records system, to provide a platform for integrated care and to ensure patients have convenient digital access to their health information.  The switch to Epic will streamline services, such as clinical applications, billing, and population health initiatives.

“Epic makes it easier for our providers to communicate and access the information they need to care for their patients,” said Anthony Houston, president, COO, CHI Memorial.  “We will continue the excellent care that we provide every day, and do it in a more comprehensive way, allowing us to have the full force of our medical staff to come together to take care of patients.”

Patients benefit from the use of MyChart, a portal that allows patients and their designated caregivers to access their health information.  They can also pay bills using an app or webpage on their phone or computer.

All organizations using Epic can exchange data with other interoperable systems, which means they can easily share patient data for improved patient care.  Providers will have the ability to coordinate care with clinicians outside of CHI Memorial who serve our patients and their families, closing care gaps, and reducing duplication.  As the leader in interoperability, Epic will enable providers to easily exchange data for improved continuity of care.

“We’re focused on helping local caregivers meet the unique needs of our community,” says Kumar Murukurthy, M.D., chief informatics medical officer, CHI Memorial.  “Epic allows us to adopt some of the standards in place at the best healthcare organizations in the country, but still be flexible and adjust for the needs of each of our locations.”

Epic is used by a majority of U.S. News and World Report’s top-ranked hospitals and medical schools that are working collaboratively every day to improve patient care, innovate healthcare delivery, and achieve financial health.
