The American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons (ASMBS) Foundation recently honored Jaime Ponce, M.D., metabolic surgeon and medical director of CHI Memorial’s weight management program, with its 2018 Master Educator Award during the ASMBS 35th annual meeting in Nashville.
The Master Educator Award recognizes an ASMBS member who has demonstrated excellence as a master educator and mentor in the field of Bariatric Surgery. In addition to recognized skills as an excellent educator, recipients of this award will have made significant contributions (one or several) in: educational leadership, curriculum development, education research, and participation in national educational meetings, educational publications in peer review journals, creation of innovative teaching programs and the development of CME programs, educational software, or videotapes.
Dr. Ponce is a former president of the ASMBS, has published articles in peer reviewed surgical journals, lectured in different meetings, been a guest speaker in international congresses and courses, instructed hundreds of surgeons in surgical procedures and has been principal investigator in several Food and Drug Administration (FDA) studies.
The ASMBS Foundation’s annual LEAD Awards brings together members of the ASMBS and the healthcare industry to honor individuals who have shown outstanding leadership and dedication to the field of metabolic and bariatric surgery. The Foundation funds advanced bariatric surgery research, professional education, and access to care initiatives.
