‘Healthcare Heroes Care Fund’ Raising Money to Support CHI Memorial Frontline Workers

12/15/20

Since early 2020, the CHI Memorial medical staff has been dealing with unprecedented challenges of treating COVID-19 patients and fighting COVID-19 in our community. CHI Memorial Foundation is now asking the Chattanooga community to support the hospital’s frontline staff by giving to a special fund called the Healthcare Heroes Care Fund.

“We are implementing a program to provide tools for our staff to take care of their emotional well-being,” explains Jennifer Nicely, CHI Memorial Foundation president.  “Reducing workplace stress, increasing mental toughness, and developing strategies for staff engagement are priorities that have a positive impact on the value and quality of medical care affecting patients, care providers, and ultimately the broader community’s well-being.”

The Healthcare Heroes Care Fund will ensure front-line medical staff at CHI Memorial feels supported by the community, whether it be financial support for those struggling to provide for their families, equipment to ensure staff safety, or for a new Recharge Room.  “The Recharge Room will be a space to work with our medical teams in developing social-emotional support programs for physicians, nurses and other staff working on the frontlines of high-risk healthcare,” shares Chyela Rowe, coordinator, arts therapies & wellbeing program, at CHI Memorial. “Similar to programs around the country, this on-site space for healthcare staff to recharge will foster resilience through creative expression, resources for self-compassion exercises, connection with peers for guided support, and trauma resources.”

Contributions to the Healthcare Heroes Care Fund can be made online at memorial.org/friends or by mailing a check to CHI Memorial Foundation, 2525 de Sales Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37404.  Please include a note designating the donation for the Healthcare Heroes Care Fund.  Gifts of any size will make a huge impact on CHI Memorial’s efforts to combat this pandemic.
