Lindsey Boyd, RN, CVRN, Receives DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses

03/06/19

Lindsey Boyd, registered nurse (RN) at CHI Memorial Hospital Hixson, recently received the Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

A co-worker nominated Boyd for her outstanding team work and compassionate patient care.  “Last week, Lindsey came to the unit to complete some education requirements.  She was dressed up in street clothes.  While she was here, two emergency patients came in at the same time.  When Lindsey was asked to assist, she immediately did so without hesitation… She went into the dirtiest patient’s room and began assisting with the most unclean of tasks. This was a very critically ill patient who required life sustaining care.  Staff was spread very thin due to two simultaneous emergencies.  This patient survived to make it to the next level due to the quick selfless actions by Lindsey.  She wound up cancelling plans she had to stay by this patient’s bedside until she ensured they were stabilized and adequate care was available.”

Boyd works in the emergency room at CHI Memorial Hospital Hixson.  She has worked for CHI Memorial since 2012.

CHI Memorial is pleased to partner with the DAISY Foundation to recognize the extraordinary difference nurses make in the lives of patients and co-workers. Nurses are chosen each month to receive this wonderful award that honors compassionate care.

At a presentation attended by the nurse’s colleagues, physicians, patients, leaders and visitors, the honoree receives a certificate commending which reads, "In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are, and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people." The honoree is also given a beautiful and meaningful sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa, a daisy bouquet, and a copy of her/his nomination letter. The honoree's nursing unit receives a cinnamon doughnut party because it takes a team for a nurse to achieve his/her best. Tasty Doughnuts generously donates the treats for this worthy cause.
