Working together to strengthen our community

Friends of CHI Memorial

Friends of CHI Memorial are individuals who support the mission and ministry of CHI Memorial with an annual gift to the Foundation.

Your support is instrumental in funding CHI Memorial’s mission of care into the future. Since 2001, Friends of CHI Memorial gifts been used to provide a variety of critical technology, equipment and capital projects with the goal of providing the best healthcare available in our community. In 2022-2023, gifts to the Friends of CHI Memorial will be used to support the interventional pulmonology program.

At CHI Memorial’s Buz Standefer Lung Center, we are pioneering lung cancer diagnosis and treatment with the goal of ending late stage lung cancers. Lung cancer is often undetected until it has reached late stages; therefore, survival rates are historically very low.

The addition of the Breathe Easy mobile lung program means that we are finding more lung cancers at earlier stages.

Dr. Krish Bhadra performing cone beam bronchoscopy

Krish Bhadra, M.D., interventional pulmonologist at the Rees Skillern Cancer Institute, is one the world’s first pulmonologists using Cone Beam CT (CBCT) bronchoscopy, an advanced technology used to reach difficult lung lesions with minimal risk to the patient. It is the most advanced form of diagnostic bronchoscopy available today – leading to improved outcomes and higher survival rates for lung cancer patients.

With more patients needing lung biopsies due to lung screening findings, our interventional pulmonology program is finding it difficult to keep up with the demand and patients may have to wait longer for an initial biopsy.

Gifts to the Friends of CHI Memorial will be used to support the Interventional Pulmonology Program with the goal of recruiting a second interventional pulmonologist to join Dr. Bhadra, and to add a new high-tech surgical suite to offer the Cone Beam technology.

With your support, we can fulfill our dream of providing the highest level of care possible utilizing well-trained staff and the most advanced technology. This is only possible through the generous support of our community.
