CHI Memorial received a five star rating, out of a possible five stars, from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). CHI Memorial is one of only five hospitals in Tennessee to achieve a five star rating. Only 15.7 percent of the 3,076 hospitals rated received a five star rating in 2023.

CHI Memorial has been recognized as an Age-Friendly Health System, an initiative of The John A. Hartford Foundation and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, in partnership with the American Hospital Association and the Catholic Health Association of the United States. Age-Friendly Health Systems provide a set of four evidence-based elements of high-quality care, known as the “4Ms,” to all older adults in the health system: What Matters, Medication, Mentation, and Mobility.

For the ninth straight year, CHI Memorial has once again been named a Best Regional Hospital by U.S. News and World Report. U.S. News & World Report named CHI Memorial a Best Regional Hospital and rated the health system as ‘high performing’ in 13 surgical procedures and chronic conditions including: COPD, colon cancer surgery, heart attack, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, hip replacement, kidney failure, knee replacement, leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma, lung cancer surgery, prostate cancer surgery, stroke, and TAVR.

For the 15th consecutive year, CHI Memorial has been named Best Hospital in the Chattanooga Times Free Press' Annual Best of the Best Awards. CHI Memorial's Emergency Department was named Best ED for the 13th year. CHI Memorial was also named Best Healthcare Employer. CHI Memorial Foundation's annual Pink! gala was named Best Fundraising Event. Dr. Rachel Labovitz was named Best General Practice Doctor, and CHI Memorial Pediatric Diagnostic Associates was named Best Pediatrician. 

CHI Memorial has earned the American College of Emergency Physicians’ (ACEP) Geriatric Emergency Department Level 3 Accreditation (GEDA).  The program is part of an effort to improve and standardize emergency care for older patients. CHI Memorial is the first hospital in the Chattanooga area to earn GEDA and is one of only five hospitals in Tennessee with the designation.

CHI Memorial received Geriatric Surgery Verification (GSV) from the American College of Surgeons, which has 32 surgical standards designed to improve surgical care and outcomes for older adults.

CHI Memorial Hospital Chattanooga and Hospital Hixson both received an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for fall 2023. This national distinction recognizes CHI Memorial’s achievements in protecting patients from preventable harm and error in the hospital. 

CHI Memorial Hospital Chattanooga has received consistent “A” ratings since Fall 2020.  This is the fourth consecutive “A” rating for CHI Memorial Hospital Hixson.

CHI Memorial Hospital Georgia was named Best Hospital and Best Medical/Healthcare Employer in North Georgia in the Chattanooga Times Free Press North Georgia Best of the Best People’s Choice Awards. CHI Memorial Pediatric Diagnostic Associates was named Best Pediatrician.

CHI Memorial is one of the nation’s 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals™ according to an independent quality analysis based on a balanced scorecard provided by PINC AI™, the technology and services brand of Premier, Inc. (NASDAQ: PINC), and reported by Fortune.

CHI Memorial has received the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry Gold Performance Achievement Award for 2023. CHI Memorial is one of only 56 hospitals nationwide to receive the honor.

The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association recognized CHI Memorial Hospital Chattanooga and Hospital Hixson with the 2023 Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award for its commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines, ultimately leading to more lives saved and reduced disability.

CHI Memorial earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® and the American Stroke Association’s Heart-Check mark for Thrombectomy Capable Certification.

CHI Memorial is accredited under the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Commission on Cancer (CoC) Accreditation Program. As a CoC-accredited institution, CHI Memorial also becomes an ACS Surgical Quality Partner. Being a Surgical Quality Partner signifies an institution’s dedication to consistently improving procedures and approaches, while maintaining a critical eye on process at every step.

The MaryEllen Locher Breast Center at CHI Memorial is designated a Comprehensive Breast Imaging Center by the American College of Radiology® (ACR®). 

CHI Memorial Rees Skillern Cancer Institute has successfully met the standards of the American Society for Radiation Oncology APEx - Accreditation Program for Excellence.  APEx is an accreditation program developed by ASTRO that validates a radiation oncology facility’s excellence in delivering high-quality patient care. The four-year accreditation is effective until August 2025.

CHI Memorial’s Weight Management Program is a Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP®) Center. A bariatric surgical center achieves accreditation following a rigorous review process during which it proves that it can maintain certain physical resources, human resources, and standards of practice.
