Telestroke

Clot-busting medication

Tenecteplase (TNK, TNKase) is used to “bust” blood clots that cause a stroke. When it comes to stroke and the effectiveness of a clot-busting medication, there’s a narrow window of opportunity that can potentially lessen the condition’s life changing side effects. That’s why it’s critical to seek emergency help at the first signs of stroke.

Thrombectomy

Thrombectomy is a type of minimally invasive surgery that’s used to remove a blood clot from inside an artery or vein. During the procedure, the physician inserts a catheter into the blood vessel to remove the blockage and restore proper blood flow. 

Endovascular revascularization and stenting


This evolving treatment option is used to disrupt or remove a blood clot in combination with medications that also break them apart. Stents are then used to hold open the artery at the site of a previous blockage. 

The fields of neurosurgery and neuro-interventional radiology continue to evolve quickly. More vascular diseases throughout the body – particularly in the brain – can be treated through catheters inserted in the wrist or into the femoral artery. In some diseases, the endovascular procedure is an alternative to the open neurological surgery.

 

Cerebral artery bypass surgery

Cerebral artery bypass surgery is used to restore blood flow by connecting a blood vessel from outside the brain to a vessel inside the brain – rerouting blood flow around a blocked or damaged artery.

Survivor support group


CHI Memorial Neuroscience Institute hosts a monthly support group meeting for stroke survivors and their caregivers on the first Tuesday of each month from 4 - 5 p.m. Meetings are held in the CHI Memorial Neuroscience Institute's Neurosurgery Clinic Conference Room, 725 Glenwood Drive, Suite E884, Chattanooga, TN 37404. We also offer an option to join via Zoom.
